Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a procedure that removes fat, usually along with excess skin and muscle, from the upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty can also correct drooping eyelids and bags under your eyes. These features all make us look older than we feel, and some may even interfere with our vision. Blepharoplasty cannot remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, and it cannot eliminate dark circles under your eyes. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, but, often, it is performed in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift.

Before deciding to have any surgery, you should discuss what you'd like to change with us and allow us to explain all procedures to you in great detail. We will discuss your desired results and whether or not we can achieve them through plastic surgery.

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are women and men who are physically healthy, mentally stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most of our patients are 35 or older, but if droopy and baggy eyelids run in your family, you may opt for blepharoplasty at a younger age.

There are some medical conditions that make any surgery risky, including eyelid surgery. Those conditions include thyroid problems such as an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and Grave's Disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, circulatory orders, or dry eye or lack of sufficient tears. We will get a thorough medical history from you when you come to our office for a consultation.
