It used to be standard to wait until you were in your 60’s to have a facelift, but that has changed. Today, some women and men are choosing facelift as early as 40. On the other end of the spectrum, as long as you are in good health, there is no reason why you cannot have a facelift in your 70’s or even older. Facelift results can last 10 years or more. Really, the answer to both questions varies based on several factors.

When Should You Choose a Facelift?

Every face is different and everyone ages differently depending on genetics and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure and tobacco use. Some people begin to show the effects of aging earlier than others and can benefit from a facelift sooner.

The procedure itself has improved, so that it is less invasive and the results are more natural-looking, and at least one study has found that patients who undergo facelift before the age of 50 are more satisfied with the results and have better long-term results. So, we no longer encourage younger patients to put it off until they are in their 60’s.

Lasting Results

The results of a facelift are permanent, but it does not stop the aging process. Generally, you can expect to look about 10 years younger once you heal. In another 10 years or so, you may feel that it is time for another procedure to refresh your look.

By undergoing a facelift earlier rather than later you will maximize your self-confidence and happiness and any secondary procedure will be much smaller.
