If you have gynecomastia, you may wonder: how is gynecomastia surgery done?  Read on to find the answer to your question.

Each gynecomastia procedure is customized to fit the needs of the patient. At the Cosmetic Surgical Center in Dallas Texas, gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia, because it actually makes the procedure safer. It is an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to go home on the day of your surgery. You will need someone to drive you home.

Basic Gynecomastia Surgery

If you do not have excess skin and you have good skin tone, begin by removing any excess fat from the breast with ultrasonic assisted liposuction. This is performed through an incision in lower areolar outline, which will naturally minimize the visibility of the small scar. After the fat is removed only hard breast tissue remains. The breast tissue is then removed under direct vision. The breast tissue will be submitted for pathological exam to rule out any abnormality.

After the tissue is removed we stitch the incision, and put you in a compression vest. You will go home the same day. The compression vest needs to be worn for 10 to 14 days. You will be able to resume a full workout in three to four weeks.

Excess Skin, Sagging, or Poor Elasticity

Gynecomastia patients with excess skin, poor elasticity, or sagging, typically require a more complex procedure. Excess skin is removed and the nipple is repositioned. We use varying techniques to accomplish this, depending on the patient’s individual needs. Mastectomy will be used in place of liposuction.
