Dallas Forehead Lift - Brow Lift DFW

Patients with noticeable sagging and wrinkling of the brow can rejuvenate their appearance by undergoing a brow lift. Plastic surgeon Dr. Rai specializes in procedures of the face and can restore the smooth, tight, and youthful appearance of your brow.

The Goal of A Brow Lift/ Forehead Lift

A forehead lift is meant to restore a youthful appearance to the forehead. A youthful forehead is smooth, wrinkle-free with brow arches positioned rightly above each eye.

With aging, these features get disrupted by sagging of the forehead skin. The dropping down of forehead skin leads to brow descent. This sagging compounds the sagging of eyelids and gives the eyes a hooded appearance. Excessive use of forehead muscles also causes forehead wrinkles.

Surgical approach to the Sagging Brows and Forehead:

  • Open Brow and Forehead Lifts.
  • Endoscopic Brow and Forehead Lifts

Open Brow and Forehead Lifts

Surgery is performed with an incision made just at the frontal hairline (most of time), or just behind the hairline (sometimes). The forehead skin is elevated at the subcutaneous plane or a deeper (subgaleal) plane down to the base of nose and eyebrows.

The corrugator and procerus muscles which are responsible for frowning and the lines above the nose are partially cut and removed. This results in a smoother forehead appearance. The eyebrows are positioned in a more desirable position and the forehead skin is draped over the underlying bony surface. Excess skin is removed, and the forehead incision is repaired with fine stitches.

Your Brow Lift will be performed at the Cosmetic Surgical Center by Dr. Rai in Dallas, TX.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

The best candidates for a brow lift are healthy individuals who want to improve tired-looking brows or deep lines on the forehead. These signs and symptoms of aging usually appear in people who are 40 to 60 years old. If wrinkles or sagging skin develop in the brow or forehead area due to stress or muscle activity before your 40s, the procedure can be recommended for you as well.

Candidates for a forehead lift must take a break from certain medications like blood thinners or herbal supplements like omega 3 a week before the procedure.

To prevent complications during and after the procedure, stop smoking for at least 4 to 6 weeks before your appointment. Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours.

Your Brow Lift Consultation

During the consultation, Dr. Rai will ask about your appearance goals and complete medical history. Once your eligibility for the procedure is confirmed, he will assess your skin concerns and discuss possible surgical techniques. He will help you visualize the whole process and your potential results to set realistic expectations.

Before your brow lift, you will be given special instructions to help you prepare for the procedure. Inform us of any allergies ahead of time.

How to Prepare for a Brow Lift

Request for 5 to 7 days of time off work in advance. This initial recovery period for a brow lift will help you get enough rest and recover more quickly.

Prepare enough pillows on your bed to elevate your head when sleeping. This position will protect the newly lifted brows and rejuvenated forehead from being touched.

Get a companion to drive you on the day of your brow/forehead lift. It is important to get as much assistance as possible in the first 24 hours after the procedure.

Anesthesia for Brow and Forehead Lift

Surgery can be done under general anesthesia or sedation. We prefer general anesthesia in our practice. Anesthesia is provided by a board-certified M.D. anesthesiologist.

Recovery after Forehead Lift and Brow Lift

The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients go home with a light head dressing. The hair can be washed two to three days after surgery. Stitches are removed in five to seven days after surgery. Pain is minimal. Most swelling subsides after around three weeks.

Endoscopic Brow Lift/Forehead Lift

An endoscopic brow lift approach is applicable when skin sagging is not extreme and most of the concern lies with the hyperactive muscles of the forehead and brows. Small, hidden incisions in the scalp are made. The endoscope is inserted through these incisions. The corrugator and procerus muscles are located. These muscles are then partially removed to improve the frown lines.

However, when forehead skin needs to be removed the open approach is more predictable and thus is the preferred approach.

Forehead Lift / Brow Lift Questions

How long does a forehead lift last?

Since aging is an ongoing phenomenon, another surgery may be required 5-10 years after the initial surgery.

Can I combine a Forehead Lift with other facial surgeries?

Many times, forehead/brow lifts are done at the same time as an upper-eyelid blepharoplasty. This gives a better outcome from both.

With aging, there is the lengthening of the nose. The nasal tip also tends to droop. This change need not be ignored. Rhinoplasty should be strongly considered with all forehead lifts and other facial rejuvenation operations.

What are the risks of a Forehead Lift and Brow Lift?

Generally, risks are low. They are limited to risks common with all surgeries. Namely, post-surgical marks at the site of incision, anesthesia risks, infection, and bleeding.

How about hair loss?

This used to be a risk with older coronal incisions that were popular in forehead lifts in the past. With our pre-hairline incision, this risk is non-existent. Actually, the anterior hairline can be lowered, and the forehead width reduced with our approach to forehead lifts.

Can I lose sensation of the scalp?

Some sensory loss can occur. Most of the time it is temporary. Scalp sensation usually recovers over a period of six to nine months after surgery.
