There is another type of cheek implant call the "submalar implant" which is designed to rejuvenate an older face that suffers from a hollow, aged appearance. This occurs when the natural fat pads of the face sink below the cheekbones. These submalar implants are usually positioned just below the cheekbones where they can plump up the hollows in the cheeks and produce a mild, lifting effect. Often submalar implants are included with a face-lift or other facial rejuvenation procedures.
