What are the Long Term Risks of Breast Augmentation?
Breast implants are foreign objects placed in the body, and it is to be expected that they will need some maintenance with the passage of time. Everyone who chooses to have breast augmentation should be aware of this reality. However, the breast implants themselves do not pose any long term health risks. During your comprehensive consultation, Dr. Rai will be happy to answer your questions about the long term risks of breast augmentation as well as the benefits.
Maintenance
Revision surgery becomes necessary if the breast implant leaks or if there is a buildup of scar tissue. This buildup of scar tissue is called capsular contracture, and it can cause hardening, a change in the shape of your breast, and pain. Choosing a skilled and experienced cosmetic surgeon can reduce the risk of developing capsular contracture.
Because your body and your breasts change over time and as you age, you may choose to have surgery in the future to improve the appearance of your breasts. With or without implants, sagging is a normal effect of aging, pregnancy, and weight loss, and you may choose a breast lift to restore your youthful appearance. If you already have implants, this is a good time to replace them.
