Seventy-five percent of women and 73 percent of men use the internet, according to a Pew Internet profile of health information seekers. The survey found 86 percent of the women are searching for health-related information, and 73 percent of the men are searching for the same type of information.

Also, part of what women are researching is various surgical procedures and doctors, as well as looking up health conditions and treatments.

Although the study did not include plastic surgery, it’s possible some of these health-information researchers are investigating various breast and body plastic surgery procedures and plastic surgeons in their area.

The internet is a great place to start gathering information about whether plastic surgery may be right for you. You must always be cautious about the information you find. Are you looking at a plastic surgeon’s website? Is the plastic surgeon board-certified? Board-certified plastic surgeons pass rigorous testing to achieve certification, and they may be more likely to care about their reputation and to have an informative, accurate website.

The internet is a great way to learn about what plastic surgery procedures can achieve, but the only way to know which procedures can meet your expectations is to consult an experienced plastic surgeon.
