What is a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover is EXACTLY what the name implies. It aims to reverse changes associated with becoming a mommy. Pregnancy and childbirth take a toll on a mother’s body. While it affects the entire body, changes in the abdomen, breasts, and birth canal are often the most noticeable and the most concerning to patients.
Elements of a Mommy Makeover:
- Tummy changes: There is stretching of the abdominal musculature, skin stretch, and stretch marks. These require an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to correct.
- Breasts: Breasts undergo engorgement with milk, enlargement, and skin stretching. After feeding, there is breast atrophy and loss of fullness. This also results in sagging of the breasts.
- Corrective surgery requires elements ranging from breast reduction to breast lift (with or without implants) and breast contouring.
- Skin rolls on the chest and flanks: These are the result of weight gain and fluid accumulation during pregnancy. Stretched skin remains in rolls. These may need liposuction or excision to correct.
- Birth canal changes: There is stretching of the vagina and pelvic floor. Additionally, there may be enlargement and hypertrophy of the labia minora. Labiaplasty or vaginal tightening may be needed to reverse these changes.
- Thigh and arm sagging: A thigh lift, arm lift, and or liposuction of the thighs and arms may be needed.
