Procedures Combined for a Mommy Makeover
Mommy makeovers combine surgical procedures to give you the body you had before pregnancy or to give you an even better one. Some of the procedures Dr. Rai might suggest are:
The Best Age for a Mommy Makeover
Mommy makeover surgery is ideal for mothers of all ages, but should be considered only after you are finished having children. Many of the changes brought about by pregnancy can alter your mommy makeover results, necessitating additional procedures to again restore the breasts and body to their most appealing form. If you plan on having more children, Dr. Rai will likely recommend you wait to undergo the mommy makeover procedure to better ensure lasting results.
Mommy Makeover Candidates
To be a good candidate for mommy makeover surgery you will need to be:
- In generally good health and close to your goal weight
- A nonsmoker or willing to quit in advance of your procedure
- Able to take time to rest during a necessary recovery period
- Willing to follow all of Dr. Rai’s pre and postoperative advice
Dr. Rai can discuss these factors with you in greater detail and help you determine if this procedure is right for your needs during your initial consultation at our conveniently located Dallas office.
Preparing for Mommy Makeover Surgery
Planning and preparing for your Dallas mommy makeover surgery can make a significant difference in the success of your makeover and recovery. If you have medical conditions that may interfere with the process, you must tell Dr. Rai. If something health-related arises after your consultation, please contact the office so this information can be added to your medical records. No matter how excited you are to have your makeover, risking complications due to a health condition or illness can be very dangerous. In addition, because some medications cause your blood to thin, Dr. Rai will give you a list of medications you must avoid prior to surgery.

How it got its name:
A Mommy Makeover is EXACTLY what the name implies. It aims to reverse changes associated with becoming a mommy. Pregnancy and childbirth take a toll on a mother’s body. While it effects the entire body, changes in the abdomen, breasts and birth canal are often the most noticed and the most concerning to patients.
Elements of a Mommy Makeover:
Tummy changes: There is stretching of abdominal musculature, skin stretch and stretch marks. These require an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to correct.
Breasts: Breasts undergo engorgement with milk, enlargement and skin stretching. After breast feeding there is breast atrophy and loss of fullness. This also results in sagging of breasts.
Corrective surgery requires elements ranging from breast reduction, breast lift (with or without implants), and breast contouring.
Skin rolls on the chest and flanks: These are the result of weight gain and fluid accumulation during pregnancy. Stretched skin remains as rolls. These may need liposuction or excision to correct.
Birth canal changes: There is stretching of the vagina and pelvic floor. In addition, there may be labia minora enlargement and hypertrophy. Labiaplasty or vaginal tightening may be needed to reverse these changes.
Thigh and arm sagging: A thigh lift, arm lift and or liposuction of the thighs and arms may be needed.
So, you are interested in a Mommy Makeover:
The journey starts with a consultation with a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon. Be ready to present your concerns and needs. The surgical plan is made. The surgery may be done in one setting or in stages depending on what needs to be done.
Steps in the Journey:
After a consultation, your surgery is scheduled. Often there will be a preoperative visit with the surgeon. During this visit the procedure is discussed again, all questions are answered, photos are taken, and consent for surgery is signed. Needed prescriptions are given.
Most often mommy makeovers are outpatient surgeries. However, sometimes an overnight stay in hospital or recovery center may be required.
What is done during surgery?
It depends on each individual mommy makeover. Most often an abdominoplasty and breast surgery is needed. Most surgeries require general anesthesia. For safety, only accredited facilities should be used for any surgery.
Time Line of Healing:
Your healing timetable will depend on the surgeries done. Most patients can expect recovery in 10-14 days. Always follow your surgeon’s instructions. Give yourself plenty of rest while recovering. A balanced, protein rich diet, and vitamins go a long way to ensure recovery and healing. Full recovery will be expected in 4-6 weeks.
The keys to success are always finding the right plastic surgeon before starting this journey and being realistic in your expectations.
