One of the most important aspects to consider when thinking about your appearance is balance. A beautiful face has balanced facial proportions, and its features complement one another to create a single beautiful and harmonious image. Your nose is the most prominent feature on your face. It rests at the center of your face, and its appearance can heavily influence the way your other facial features appear. Because of its prominence, the size, shape, and appearance of your nose can either complement your appearance or detract from your natural beauty and your comfort with your appearance.
You shouldn’t have to be embarrassed by the way your nose looks. At the Cosmetic Surgical Center of Dallas, Dr. Rai can sculpt a nose that satisfies your aesthetic needs. He can help you design a nose that brings balance to your facial proportions and complements your natural features in order to give you the confidence you need to face the world.
Designing Your Look
The first and most important step in getting your new look is meeting with Dr. Rai in our Dallas plastic surgery office for an initial consultation. During this time, Dr. Rai will examine your nose and discuss your reasons for pursuing a rhinoplasty. You will also be able to establish the goals for your cosmetic nose surgery so that Dr. Rai has an in-depth understanding of your desired aesthetic results. He will use this understanding to help formulate the surgical plan for your procedure. Dr. Rai will also listen to and address any concerns you may have about the procedure so that you feel comfortable and properly prepared when your surgery date comes.
It is important to remember to have realistic expectations regarding your appearance after your rhinoplasty procedure. Dr. Rai will discuss the results you can expect from the procedure and will explain why certain options are more beneficial than others.
There are multiple areas of the nose that can be corrected through rhinoplasty, as well as several common aesthetic issues that frequently drive people to undergo rhinoplasty. These issues include:
- Bulbous nasal tip
- Hooked nasal tip
- Under-projected nasal tip
- Dorsal hump
- Asymmetrical nostrils
- Wide nasal bridge
- Nasal asymmetry
- Oversized nose
- Deviated septum
Dr. Rai will make a detailed plan for your rhinoplasty operation and review all of the steps for your procedure and recovery with you so that you feel comfortable with the process and fully prepared for your recovery.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
In a preoperative meeting, your final questions will be answered, photographs of your nose are taken, and you will be given prescriptions for any medications you will need during recovery, as well as a list of post-surgical instructions.
Each rhinoplasty procedure is unique, as it is based on the desired aesthetic results of the patient and the area of the nose being worked on. Rhinoplasty also requires an immense amount of technical skill from the surgeon. In order to alter the shape of the nose, Dr. Rai must carefully manipulate and reshape the structures of the nose. Extreme care and precision must be used because the nasal structure could become destabilized, which would put your results at risk.
Your rhinoplasty procedure will take about 60-90 minutes based upon the extent of the work required. You will be able to return home after an additional 60-90 minutes of recovery. We recommend that you have someone drive you home to ensure your safety, so make sure to notify a friend or family member prior to the day of your procedure. You will have a splint molded onto your nose for support and protection and padding under your nose to absorb drainage, which usually stops within 24 hours.
Dr. Rai will call you on the evening of your surgery to check in and see if you have any questions.
Your splint will be removed 5-7 days after surgery during a follow-up visit with Dr. Rai. You should expect some swelling and bruising of the nose and cheeks at this point. This should subside after a few weeks
You will begin to see results within the first few weeks, but the full results of your procedure will not yet be visible. Due to the intensity of the procedure, there will still be some internal swelling that prevents the new shape of your nose from fully appearing. It takes 12-18 months to achieve the final outcome as swelling gradually settles and the skin of your nose adapts to the change in structure. Although this may seem like a long time, the results from your rhinoplasty are permanent. Patients who have been unhappy with the appearance of their nose for years will gladly wait an additional year to have a nose that they feel comfortable and happy with.
If you experience any issues, complications, or anything concerning at any point during your recovery, contact Dr. Rai immediately to schedule a visit. He will closely examine the issue, diagnose the problem, and recommend the appropriate course of action.
