What is a Rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty reshapes or resizes the nose. It can be performed to enhance the appearance of the nose or to correct breathing problems resulting from structural issues. During the procedure, the nasal bone, cartilage, and soft tissues may be adjusted to create the desired shape and size.
There are two primary techniques used in rhinoplasty:
- Open Rhinoplasty: Involves a small incision across the columella, the strip of tissue between the nostrils. This allows for greater visibility and precision when reshaping the nose.
- Closed Rhinoplasty: All incisions are hidden inside the nostrils. This results in no visible scarring and a potentially shorter recovery period, though it may not be suitable for every case.
Rhinoplasty is a highly customized procedure. No two surgeries are the same, and Dr. Rai will design a plan based on your anatomy, your concerns, and your goals. Dr. Rai prefers closed rhinoplasty to minimize any scarring and retain good support to the nose.
