Here are some common cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate your curves: Breast augmentation: Creating an appealing overall breast appearance, breast augmentation increases breast volume and restores a pleasant breast shape. Facelifts for Men

Last year, the popularity of male facelifts grew slightly, by 3 percent, compared to 2010, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Of the 119,026 facelifts performed by ASPS surgeons that year, 11,214 of those procedures belonged to men. Plastic Surgery may Improve Psychological Wellness

A new study suggests common plastic surgery procedures, including tummy tuck and liposuction, change more than your physical self. Presented at a meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the study looked at the effect plastic surgery had upon the lives of 105 patients of various ages. After plastic surgery, the majority of patients experienced: Positive impact psychologically Better quality of life Improved self image These positive effects likely come from an improved body image. A woman who has breast enlargement may feel more confident and at-home in her body once her breasts have been enlarged. When you feel good about the way […]

Exercising after Liposuction may Prevent Development of New Fat

One of the most common liposuction surgery questions patients ask is whether their fat will return in the years following their procedure. For the best results, most plastic surgeons recommend being close to your ideal weight before this body contouring procedure, and sticking to regular diet and exercise after your procedure. A recent study shows that women who adopt an exercise routine after liposuction may prevent new fat from forming, according to an article from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The study followed 36 women seeking flatter bellies with liposuction of the abdominal area. Half of these women were […]

Breast Augmentations 50th Anniversary

This year, breast augmentation turns 50. In 1962, a 30-year-old mother of six from Texas underwent the first breast augmentation procedure using breast implants, specifically silicone breast implants. Timmie Jean Lindsey was looking for a doctor who could remove a chest tattoo when doctors told her she would be a perfect candidate for an exciting new procedure, for which they asked her to volunteer. Women had been searching for ways to enlarge their breasts since the late 19th century, and probably before then. Some of these early attempts at augmentation were quite rudimentary and led to complications. Breast augmentation of the […]

Photo Exhibition Depicts the Evolving Concept of Beauty Created by Plastic Surgery

A new exhibit from photographer Phillip Toledano is a series of images of people who have undergone plastic surgery. These men and women have undergone combinations of different facial rejuvenation procedures, as well as breast augmentation and pec implants. The results of the procedure can be described as “extreme.” The results are obviously not supposed to look natural, and perhaps one of the main ideas of the exhibit is to challenge the very idea of beauty. Portraying subjects in something like Renaissance-style portraiture, Toledano’s work has been called the “BOTOX Botticellis” by some media sources. With resolute facial expressions, the subjects […]

Research Targets Cancer-Fighting Capacity of Breast Implants

Two research and development projects are looking at utilizing breast implants in the fight against breast cancer. Scientists from Brown University are developing a special breast implant surface promoting the presence of healthy cells and deterring the presence of cancer cells. The surface is described as a “microscopic bed-of-nails” that prevents cancer cells from dwelling on it. At the same time, this surface seems to attract healthy cells. The researchers tested various surfaces and found the breast implant covered in tiny, microscopic bumps to be the most effective in promoting the growth of healthy breast cells. According to the American Society for […]

Facelift vs. Ultherapy

Ultherapy is one of the hot new facial rejuvenation procedures – no pun intended. Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to heat facial skin, which is supposed to tighten skin laxity by stimulating production of collagen and produce results similar to a forehead lift. Ultherapy has been praised for providing facelift-like results at a significantly lower cost and without incisions. Although Ultherapy may yield some degree of facial rejuvenation, the surgical tightening – such as occurs in a facelift – of a drooping facial contour simply cannot be achieved with a non-surgical procedure. The surgical advantages of a facelift include: Sculpting of the underlying fat […]

Chin Implant Popularity Increases

Chin implant procedures soared last year, among both men and women, according to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Overall, chin implant demand increased 71 percent in 2011 compared to 2010. There was a 66 percent increase among women in 2011, and a 76 percent increase among men. The greatest demand came from people older than 40, although there were also significant increases among people in their 20s and 30s as well. Speculation has abounded regarding the reasons behind the increase for this facial procedure. The rise in both facelifts and chin implants may be attributable to: Widespread use of video […]
