Although we enjoy warm temperatures virtually year-round in the Dallas area, the fact that it’s springtime is still a good reason to make some changes. Whether you’ve been considering a plastic surgery procedure for some time now, or want to refresh your style, the spring season is a good time to renew your confidence in your look.
Unsure of where to start? Try making some of these changes:
Find an SPF foundation or tinted moisturizer that matches your skin perfectly.
Accentuate your strong features. Wear a bright lipstick if you’re proud of your lips, or try blush to highlight your cheekbones.
Exfoliate your skin. […]
A little over six years ago, the US Food and Drug Administration lifted a 14-year ban on the use of silicone breast implants in breast augmentation. Since then, the use of silicone breast implants has grown significantly.
In 2006, right after the ban was lifted, 19 percent of breast augmentation procedures used silicone implants, according to statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In 2012, 72 percent of breast augmentation procedures used silicone, while saline breast implants were used in about 28 percent of the procedures.
Advancements in the shape, sizing and material of silicone implants have made them a […]
There are many cosmetic surgery options available to men and women who want to improve certain problem areas and fulfill their cosmetic goals.
Although most people have a general idea of whether they want a surgical or non-surgical cosmetic procedure, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery recently highlighted 4 things you should consider when choosing between surgical and non-surgical:
Length of recovery and downtime: Cosmetic surgery will require time away from work and social activities, while non-surgical options like BOTOX® have no downtime.
Longevity of results: Although a cosmetic surgery may require a week or two for recovery, the results last longer […]
Allure.com currently features a slideshow of some of the plastic surgery industry’s newfangled procedures and techniques. Beware, says Allure, because plastic surgery featured on TV shows and otherwise advertised as new and innovative may be untested or ineffective.
Allure suggests the word “new” may be something to be cautious about in plastic surgery. The slideshow includes some of the following plastic surgery treatments:
The Vampire Facelift
The stem-cell facelift
Ulthera
Fat injections for breast enlargement without implants
Foot lifts
While these procedures may be safe and effective, they do not have the safety record and tried-and-true results of more traditional plastic surgery.
Instead of trying to choose a […]
Facelift patients who have a second facelift an average of 10 years later experience lasting results and a low complication rate from this second surgery, according to a report in this month’s issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, a secondary facelift can be safe and effective for an older patient, the researchers found.
The study looked at 60 patients who were having a second facelift. Mostly women and a few men, the patients were an average of 51 years old at the time of the first facelift, and an average of 60 years old for […]
Every year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons releases statistics about the plastic surgery industry. Last month, it released statistics for 2012. In 2012, plastic surgery saw gains, as did the auto, retail and home sales industries.
In 2012, 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed, up 5 percent from 2011. The statistics also show that non-surgical procedures continue to grow steadily, a trend that has persisted for the last three years. Surgical procedures mostly remain steady.
The growth in plastic surgery in 2012 was mostly in the areas of facial rejuvenation and minimally invasive treatments. Facial rejuvenation procedures that saw […]
It’s true. Skinny women over 40 may have more wrinkles and deep folds on their face than heavier women of the same age. If you want to maintain your trim figure but are dissatisfied with the sagginess of your face, you may be a good candidate for a facelift.
Recently, the UK’s Daily Mail ran a photo of Matthew McConaughey, with the title “Lost 30 pounds, gained 30 years.” McConaughey poses with an extra on the set of his new film, for which he is said to have lost 30 pounds. McConaughey does look older because his face has lost volume.
If […]
Most of us have some problem areas we wouldn’t mind changing. More than 14.7 million plastic surgery procedures and non-surgical cosmetic procedures were performed worldwide in 2011, according to the Economist, which reviewed data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
More than half of the cosmetic treatments were non-surgical, including things like BOTOX® and laser hair removal.
At first glance, it seems Americans consume the most plastic surgery. Our country has the most plastic procedures and treatments performed, but when you account for population, the following countries can be said to be bigger consumers of beautification:
Greece
South Korea
Italy
In the US in […]
For many women, sagging breasts and lost breast volume are an inevitable result of aging, pregnancy, weight loss and other life events. A breast lift restores sagging breasts to a lifted position and rounder shape. Many women want to increase breast volume at the same time as a lift.
A combined breast lift and breast augmentation can be performed in two separate, staged procedures, or simultaneously in a single procedure.
Does a combined procedure increase surgical complications? A new study suggests there is no increased risk of complications when a breast lift is combined with breast augmentation in a single operation.
The study […]
Tummy tuck surgery may lead to lasting weight loss for some people, especially people who are overweight or obese before their tummy tuck. This hypothesis appears in a study published in this month’s issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®.
Researchers believe the maintained weight loss may be due to feelings of satiety, or fullness after eating, caused by less abdominal fat. After you have a tummy tuck, you may feel fuller after eating compared to before the surgery.
In the study, 20 women had tummy tucks, with an average of 5 pounds of abdominal fat and skin removed. After a year, 14 […]
