Cosmetic surgery might be an elective procedure for many people, but regardless of its necessity, it is still invasive and requires serious recovery. Breast surgery, liposuction, and abdominoplasty can all have recovery periods of a couple of months, and to help you make it through this period successfully a good diet is essential.

In the past, it has been shown that a nutritional diet will help you much more during the recovery process than regular hospital food. Many hospital foods are high in carbohydrates and saturated fats, but lacking in important nutrients. They are also over-processed before getting to the recovering patient.

Some helpful items to include in your diet during recovery from cosmetic surgery are:

  • Antioxidants – Found in colorful fruit and vegetables
  • Protein – Lean beef, chicken, low-fat dairy products, and fish are all excellent sources of protein
  • Glutamine – This amino acid is found in proteins, but it can also be supplemented with a powder form mixed with water or juice
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids – While these are present in fish and cage-free eggs, you can also take fish oil capsules to supplement your fatty acid intake

Cosmetic surgery, like any other form of surgery, is a shock to the body, and you need to provide yourself with the best nutrients possible for best recovery.
