Should I Have Saline Implants or Silicone Breast Implants?
If you are 22 years old or older, you can choose silicone gel or saline. It is a matter of personal preference. The majority of patients and surgeons prefer silicone implants because they look, feel, and move like natural breasts. However, some women are still afraid of silicone implants, because they do not have all of the information on their safety.
If you are practical woman who does not surrender to unnecessary fears, then you should have silicone gel implants. Silicone gel implants have been studied extensively. They are safe. They give a very natural feel, and can be used in front of muscle with beautiful results.
Simply put, silicone implants silicone implants perform better.
The Controversy
Silicone implants have a silicone gel filling. Silicone gel is foreign to your body whereas saline is just salt water. In theory, saline implants are safer than silicone gel implants. However, this is only a consideration if the implant leaks. The old silicone implant were not filled with cohesive gel, and the silicone could disburse throughout the body. Today’s silicone implants do not behave that way in the rare event that the casing cracks.
For practical purposes both implants are safe. In absence of any contraindication, silicone implants are the implants of choice.
Younger Women
If you are under 22 you can thank the FDA for taking away your right to choose the best implants. Saline is your only option at this point in life.
