Fat cells removed by liposuction do not grow back. However, if you are considering liposuction, you must understand that it is not a weight loss or weight management procedure. It is a body contouring procedure which improves your shape by removing stubborn pockets of fat. You will still need to maintain your weight with diet and exercise, after liposuction. Understanding Fat Cells

After adolescence, the number of fat cells in your body stabilizes, and generally remains the same for the rest of your life, unless you gain a significant amount of weight. Fat is stored in your fat cells, and normally they are not filled to capacity. If they are filled to capacity, and your body still has more fat to store, new fat cells will be created.

When fat cells are removed by liposuction, the remaining cells can still grow larger with weight gain. You will retain your new shape, but you will still get larger. If you gain a lot of weight, your body will accommodate by producing new fat cells, in which case you may lose the benefits of your new shape as well as the desirable size.

Liposuction and Weight Loss

Liposuction only removes a few pounds of fat, in most cases. We recommend the procedure if you have reached or are near your target weight, and after diet and weight loss have failed to yield the shape that you want. It can also be appropriate for people who are predisposed to having a double chin. Liposuction does not help you lose weight; it fine tunes the results.
