Most people are quite familiar with the more common cosmetic surgery procedures such as face lifts, breast augmentation, and tummy tucks, but there is another procedure steadily gaining popularity among men and women in the 35-65 age group: eyebrow lift. Eyebrow lifts are also referred to as forehead lifts. If you are unhappy with the lines across your forehead or the looseness of the skin on your forehead, an eyebrow lift just may be the solution you have been looking for.

The Procedure

An eyebrow lift can be performed by your cosmetic surgeon in two different ways. In the “open” approach, your surgeon will make one continuous incision across the crown of the head at the hairline. The cosmetic surgeon will maneuver tissues and remove segments of muscles and skin that are responsible for wrinkles or deep frown lines.

Or, the brow lift can be performed endoscopically with the assistance of a scope through a small incision at the temples, within the hairline or in the upper eyelid creases. Instead of making one long incision, your surgeon will make a few shorter incisions in the scalp. A scope will then be inserted into one of the incisions in order to view the tissues and muscles from a screen. At the same time, another device will be inserted in another incision to make the necessary alterations.

Endoscopic surgery is less invasive than the traditional approach, and the scars are much smaller. The endoscopic approach is typically best suited for patients who do not have deep horizontal lines across the forehead or a lot of loose skin on the forehead.

For the procedure, patients are either administered general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. After the incisions are made, the surgeon will move your eyebrows to a more desirable position. After surgery, you may be instructed to wear a tight pressure dressing for the first few days following the procedure. The bruising and swelling will go down after several days. Within a week, you will notice the changes in your eyebrows. After 2-3 three weeks, the new brow settles and begins to look natural.

A common side effect of brow lift surgery is headaches that will most likely subside after 2-3 weeks.

An eye brow lift is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered under insurance plans. Be sure to inquire about price and financing options prior to scheduling this procedure.
