Most of us have some problem areas we wouldn’t mind changing. More than 14.7 million plastic surgery procedures and non-surgical cosmetic procedures were performed worldwide in 2011, according to the Economist, which reviewed data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

More than half of the cosmetic treatments were non-surgical, including things like BOTOX® and laser hair removal.

At first glance, it seems Americans consume the most plastic surgery. Our country has the most plastic procedures and treatments performed, but when you account for population, the following countries can be said to be bigger consumers of beautification:

  • Greece
  • South Korea
  • Italy

In the US in 2011, 3.11 million total non-invasive and surgical cosmetic procedures were performed, making it the number one country for total procedures; however for every 1,000 people, more people had plastic surgery in the countries listed above than in the US.

According to the Economist, liposuction is the most popular plastic surgery procedure worldwide. Breast enlargement is the second most popular, and performed commonly in the US and Brazil.
