In recent studies, patients reported high levels of satisfaction following liposuction. Patients were also very satisfied with tummy tuck results. While both of these procedures improve body contours and the profile of your physique, each accomplishes slightly different cosmetic goals and requires different recovery periods.

Liposuction removes isolated pockets of fat from various areas of your body. In a study published in this month’s issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, liposuction patients reported an average of six days off from work following their procedure and an average pain score of 6 out of 10.

Tummy tucks remove any excess tissue hanging around the midriff area. In the same study, patients who received a tummy tuck took an average of 16 days off from work, and reported an average pain score of 7.5 out of 10.

At the Cosmetic Surgical Center, plastic surgeon Dr. Vasdev Rai often suggests combining liposuction with a tummy tuck for the most favorable cosmetic results. Combining the two should not extend your recovery beyond 16 days.
